We're all about Monster Trucks at our house. I'd always thought my little boy would play with trains. Wooden ones. Because that seems like a classic leave-it-to-beaver activity, and I was pretty sure my kids would value nostalgia over actual fun. Alas, we are a monster truck family (with a sprinkling of Hot Wheels for good measure). It's not just the boys either--Eliza can name more monster trucks than Disney princesses (which makes me proud because I'm pretty sure if she rejects Disney princesses, she will also reject Barbie Dolls, and will therefore go through life with a realistic view of true female beauty...) Anyway, ages ago Jerel woke me up in the middle of the night (it was at least 9pm) to see if I thought it would be worth it to buy tickets to a monster truck show for Isaiah. Apparently I said yes in my sleep, so that settled that. Sadly the tickets were purchased long before Eliza's devotion to the big trucks became fully apparent, so she wasn't able to attend.
Isaiah had a great time and can't wait to go again. He even found it inspiring enough to be the subject of his first book: Isaiah's Trip to a Monster Truck Show.

This illustration shows a monster truck about to drive over a hill. |

Isaiah had a great idea for this illustration and drew a top-down view of the train. He even made the train see-through so that you can also see the train tracks beneath it. |

This was a tough one but he had a great idea and drew sound waves. |

In the center is a chicken finger; the far right shows a french fry. Zay is a pretty picky eater and was worried about what he would be able to eat at the show. Daddy had his pockets stuffed with Isaiah-approved granola bars and such just in case, but Zay bravely tried chicken fingers for the very first time (in the past he has only had chicken nuggets, which are a whole different food from chicken fingers when you are Isaiah). |
